Our 2025 journey towards strengthening resilience

Our 2025 journey towards strengthening resilience

As 2025 draws to a close, we’re happy to reflect on a year marked by shared progress and strong collaboration. Working alongside our partners, we laid important groundwork for the BiodivEarth resilience initiative, including:

  • Engaging 18 partner organisations in our Community of Practice (CoP), bringing together pilot-site stewards, researchers, and global and regional conservation initiatives
  • Hosting two CoP workshops (one online and one in person in Minorca) to co-design project activities
  • Launching the identification of key resilience factors across pilot sites
  • Initiating the design of a research protocol under the leadership of our new postdoctoral researchers
  • Joining the International Partnership for the Satoyama Initiative (IPSI) as a member
  • Contributing to major global conversations in 2025, including the UN Ocean Conference, the IUCN World Conservation Congress, and meetings under the Convention on Biological Diversity
  • Welcoming two new members to the BiodivEarth team

We are deeply thankful to everyone who contributed to this journey. Looking ahead, the coming year will focus on expanding our Community of Practice by selecting 5-10 research sites to explore resilience across a wide range of landscapes and seascapes. We will also continue to foster collective learning through CoP gatherings, beginning with our second in-person meeting in El Hierro this February.
In 2026, we look forward to continuing this work together, strengthening resilience in areas of high biodiversity for both nature and people.
