First in-person meeting of the BiodivEarth Community of Practice in Minorca, Spain

First in-person meeting of the BiodivEarth Community of Practice in Minorca, Spain

Earlier this month, members of the BiodivEarth Community of Practice met in Menorca, Spain, for a three-day in-person workshop. The gathering provided an opportunity to reconnect, exchange knowledge, and reflect collectively on ongoing work.

We were warmly hosted by Grup Balear d’Ornitologia i Defensa de la Naturalesa (GOB Menorca) and the Observatori Socioambiental de Menorca (OBSAM). Their strong local expertise and commitment to sustainability created the conditions for a meaningful and productive exchange.

Workshop highlights

During the three days, participants:

  • Deepened their understanding of environmental, social, and economic resilience factors across pilot sites, supported by contributions from Community of Practice members and a field visit.
  • Explored GOB’s land stewardship model for regenerative agriculture, “Custodia Agraria,” through visits to two local farms.
  • Shared practical experience and lessons learned across focus sites, while discussing potential new sites.
  • Reflected on the development of a future diagnostic tool aimed at fostering resilience in high-biodiversity landscapes and seascapes.
  • Strengthened personal connections within the Community of Practice.

We are sincerely grateful to everyone on the island who contributed to making this workshop possible. The time spent in Menorca left us with fresh perspectives and a renewed sense of shared purpose.
