The BiodivEarth association is a not-for-profit organisation created and based in Switzerland. Its vision is a world where human societies and nature thrive, nurturing one another in a respectful and sustainable manner. The mission of the association consists in accelerating the delivery of existing conservation efforts and initiatives towards halting then reversing biodiversity loss. Present objectives align with the 2030 targets set by the Convention on Biological Diversity.

BiodivEarth strengthens the resilience of effective management schemes in areas of high biodiversity to help prevent further biodiversity loss. We bring together a diverse set of stewards delivering effective management schemes including Indigenous peoples, local communities, private landowners, farmers, fishers, foresters, entrepreneurs, protected area managers, and institutions — to share knowledge and collectively improve their practices through a Community of Practice (CoP).

A management scheme is considered resilient if it consistently maintains biodiversity and ecosystem functions while supporting local socio-economic and cultural dynamics.

We work with pilot sites that have shown long-term success in managing biodiversity. These sites serve as models of resilience and represent a variety of stewardship types. Together, they form a Community of Practice that promotes peer exchange, visibility, and collective learning.

In parallel, we collaborate with research organizations to analyse what makes these models resilient. Insights from this research help diagnose and improve resilience, both within the CoP and in other regions, with a focus on islands.

In this section, accordingly, we discuss the association’s vision of a sustainable future for future generations. Initially, it envisions a world where the abundance of life on Earth is preserved alongside the rights and aspirations of indigenous peoples. Besides within this community of practice, both efforts are being made to make the world a better place for present and future generations and to preserve biodiversity. Further, by promoting collaboration and the exchange of expertise, this collective dynamic strengthens the impact of the actions undertaken and encourages innovation in the field of environmental conservation. Also, it fosters a sense of shared responsibility among diverse stakeholders. Finally, this collective effort embodies a shared commitment to sustainability and underscores the importance of concerted action in shaping a better future for all.
