A New Film Exploring Small-Scale Fisheries and Coastal Resilience

A New Film Exploring Small-Scale Fisheries and Coastal Resilience

We are thrilled to share a new film co-produced by Low Impact Fishers of Europe (LIFE), a member of our Community of Practice, together with partners, highlighting the essential role of small-scale fisheries in strengthening resilience in coastal communities and marine ecosystems.

The film illustrates how small-scale fisheries are not only fundamental to local livelihoods and food security, but also a key pillar of sustainable coastal management. It also reflects ongoing work in our pilot sites of El Hierro and Cap Roux, where local stakeholders are actively developing and reinforcing small-scale fisheries approaches grounded in sustainability, local knowledge, and ecosystem-based management.

While rooted in the Mediterranean context, the film addresses a global reality. Small-scale fisheries face shared challenges and opportunities across regions worldwide. In this context, our Community of Practice plays an active role in fostering collaboration and knowledge exchange, strengthening links between initiatives, researchers, and coastal communities.

We are pleased to contribute to and amplify this collective effort across regions committed to advancing sustainable small-scale fisheries and coastal resilience.
