The project aims to bolster the resilience of conservation and sustainable management models in high biodiversity areas worldwide, encompassing both marine and terrestrial ecosystems. Over three years, in collaboration with André Hoffmann, the project operates across three strategic axes.

What We Do BiodivEarth

What We Do BiodivEarth

First and foremost,

it seeks to understand resilience by identifying the factors contributing to the effectiveness of management models, creating a practical index to measure local resilience, and monitoring global variations in model resilience. Moreover, the project convenes the guardians of resilience by establishing a community of practice comprising individuals overseeing effectively managed areas of high biodiversity. This community aims to increase visibility, facilitate knowledge exchange, and disseminate successful management models. Additionally, the project aims to build resilience by integrating it into existing successful conservation and sustainable development initiatives.

This involves diagnosing gaps in resilience and promoting the development of solutions. The project’s unique value lies in several aspects. Firstly, it brings together a wide range of stakeholders involved in the management of biodiversity hotspots, including local and indigenous communities, civil society organizations, government agencies, protected area managers, and private landowners. Secondly, it provides practical tools for assessing and monitoring the resilience of management models, enabling timely intervention to ensure the conservation of biodiversity hotspots worldwide. Finally, it advises on preventive measures to mitigate the risks of degradation in effectively managed areas, thereby promoting proactive conservation interventions. Through these efforts, the project aims to contribute to the 30X30 target of the Global Biodiversity Framework and support the promotion of other effective area-based conservation measures (OECM)
